Carolina, a lyrical analysis from Harry Styles the album

Carolina, Song Meaning and Lyrical Interpretation

I know I am doing a lyrical analysis of Carolina but I gotta say this may be one of the most straightforward songs on the album. But I must talk about every song so let's get started.

Carolina is a song about Harry meeting this new, exciting girl and being memorized by her. This may play on boy-band fangirl tendencies where girls imagine their celebrity crush falling in love with them. Harry emphasizes that this girl is NOT a celebrity - she is a regular small town girl, i.e Carolina. This makes fangirls relate to the song and this girl.

"Towns, better swim before you drown": Towns is actually a name - the name of the girl he wrong this about. If you watch any of his performances of this song, you can see that he has now changed the lyrics to Towne. Why? Because even though he thought this girl was so exciting and special, he didn't know her actual name until after the song was released. Sorta lame, Harry.

I'm sure Harry was smiling to himself when he wrote the "Town" pun. Harry loves puns.

She's a good girl: This line is repeated in the song and marks the chorus. It's supposed to be a fun, sassy, sexy line. There's also a theory that this song may be about cocaine. I don't subscribe to it as I don't think Harry is a coke-head. She feels so good is the line which many people say could relate to cocaine, but I just feel he is talking about the girl.

I know this one was short but I promise I have a lot to say about Two Ghosts as that one has more depth!

Do you agree or do you interpret these lyrics differently? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Josh's Ex-Girlfriend Wants Revenge 💩: Crazy Ex Girlfriend Season 3 Episode 1 Review

💩💩💩

Yesterday, Friday the 13th, October 2017, my favorite show of all time went back on the air!! Crazy Ex Girlfriend debuted its first episode of Season 3. I'm a huge fan of the show; last year I would watch the episode twice. Once, when it aired live and second, on The CW website because when I watch something live, I can't pause or rewind so I miss a lot of stuff. However, this time I didn't and I am wondering why....

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the premiere. The two songs were amazing!!

Where is Rebecca Bunch: a fun song which I believe was parodying Beauty and the Beast. I liked how the West Covina Hotel was supposed to be the tower the princess is trapped in. I loved this song, because it was very Broadway-like. It also reminded me a little of Into the Woods. "Is she out to brunch?" is funny because it's so ridiculous and only there for the rhyme. Even in this song, you could see Nathaniel has started to care about Rebecca when he fires George for implying Rebecca should kill herself.

Let's Generalize About Men: also, a very fun song. I really enjoyed the beat, and I think I've heard this music somewhere else before. I loved everyone's outfits!! It was so aesthetically pleasing. I wasn't so sure what the song was saying exactly. I know a lot of the anti-feminist people say stuff like "not all men!!!" but I don't think this song was affirming them. Instead, I think it was just saying how ridiculous it is when these people assume everyone is always talking about ALL men, when they are just talking about some men.

Nathaniel: Nathaniel was so cute and dorky in this episode. The power dynamic has really changed, and I love Rebecca ignoring him. Nathaniel probably doesn't get ignored too often. I do hope Nathaniel gets over his issues with power and relationships. In previous episodes, he has said stuff implying he likes the chase and when the chase is over he finds the person annoying. I hope that doesn't happen with Rebecca.

Revenge Plots: When someone hurts you, you can't really get revenge. That's what I've learned throughout my years. I didn't think the poop revenge was soooo bad - it was on The Help (the movie). The evil laugh Rebecca gave at the end of the episode was hilarious (might rival Michael's in The Good Place!). I want to see the result of the poop revenge in the next episode so I hope they don't brush it off. I'm not a huge fan of Paula's lawyer plan as I don't think she has a case, but I'm not a lawyer so who knows. She might be able to sue for the money she spent on the wedding but does Josh even have money she can sue for?

This was certainly a crass episode with the sex tape plan (which I thought was a dumb revenge plot.). I'm not a huge fan of crass things and I would like to see more emotional development from Rebecca in future episodes. We saw some in this episode where Rebecca learns she shouldn't hurt herself while trying to hurt Josh.

Next episode we'll see her teaming up with Nathaniel to do more revenge stuff. I feel like there will be more abuse of Nathaniel's obsession with her in the next episode. Until next time!!

The Feminism of Kip Moore's More Girls Like You

Recently, I heard a boy say, "If I have to raise a teenage daughter, I am going to stay out of her life. I'm not going anywhere near that."

His words irked me. What do you mean you don't want to be in your daughter's life? Why is a teenage girls' life so gross to you?

The answer, obviously, is misogyny.

He doesn't think he can look at his teenage daughter and see her as a completely whole human being.

When he looks at her, he sees her as just another girl who will be sexually objectified and demeaned by other men like him.

When he looks at her, he gets scared that she will be interested in sex and that would mean that she isn't as pure as she should be.

Because society believes women are only for men's sexual pleasure and that women should not have any sexual pleasure of their own.

So how does this relate to Kip Moore's More Girls Like You?

Kip probably just wanted to write another love song that made the country ladies swoon, but I was touched by the sincerity of it.

The message of, "I want to raise more girls like you" does a few things. First, it gives value to women. In a world where millions of girls are aborted or killed just for being girls, its nice to hear someone say, "I WANT A GIRL."

China's One-Child Policy caused many people to get illegal abortions after they found out their only child was going to be a girl. They wanted a boy because in their society, girls have less power. They wanted a child that could bring them success and financial acclaim. This also happens a lot in India, where the girl is a financial strain on the family because she is going to be married off with an expensive dowry. Read more about it here.

I LOVE the idea of having a song that appreciates having daughters. DAUGHTERS. plural.

Secondly, I like how he compares his daughter to his wife. He HAS to see his wife as a sexual being but that doesn't stop him from comparing her to his daughter. He knows that his daughter will someday probably find a man like him and he is okay with that because any man like him would respect women.

And lastly, the song plain and simple just appreciates women. (Not just for male's sexual pleasure like a lot of the bro-country songs). The song says how God created women and so they are humans worthy of the utmost respect and love. The exact opposite of misogyny.

When I looked at the comments of the above music video, I saw this comment.

???????

Why did that guy write that? What does loving women as complete, whole human beings have to do with liberal politics as opposed to conservative politics? This guy and the 3 likes he got are just one of the misogynistic freaks who can't handle a KIND song like this. Just another example of how so many people hate and disrespect women.

I was researching Kip Moore and I gotta say maybe he's just a kind person all together. After the Charlottesville White Supremacy Rallies, he was so moved he wrote an Instagram post about it.

I grew up in south ga so I'm 100% aware of what racism looks like, sounds like, and what it feels like (when you hear it out of another's mouth). I was lucky to have parents that never instilled that toxic hatred in my bloodline. However, i did have a few friends that occasionally used the N word in their vocabulary. I'd have numerous fights and arguments about why they would say shit like that, eventually driving a wedge between any surface friendship we even had to begin with and cut those people from my life. The one constant theme I learned at a young age was, they all developed those ignorant views from their ignorant parents who learned it from their ignorant parents. A lot of people will read this and say "amen" or "well said" or "that's how I feel" but you ain't doing shit about it in the real world. The gift of kindness may start as a small ripple that has the potential of turning into a tidal wave. Don't bitch about the state of the world if youre too lazy or too much of a puss to stand up to your friends when you hear them or see them doing racist shit. It starts with each one of us individually if we wanna change what this world looks like. Go out of your way to take care of people and spread kindness. I'm Not tryin to preach, but I'm way more concerned with the state of my fellow brother than the state of my Instagram following. Take a break from your 100th bathroom selfie and pay attention to what's taking place around you. oh and to those that spew hateful comments on social media all the time yet have "Jesus lover" as your profile heading.. that would prolly provoke Jesus to slap your dumb ass. The last thing I'll say is for the ones who will always miss the point and need it broken down. I condemn any protest that turns to violent.. Black, white, purple, yellow etc... I'm saddened anytime I see hatred towards one another and you should be ashamed if you don't feel the same way. It's never too late to evaluate who you are and break the chain that's been passed down. We all bleed the same. Hey @realjohngray there's a lot of people preaching love right there with ya bud.

Harry Styles at Radio City Music Hall: Kiwi is now my favorite song.

I know I have a fair amount of Harry Styles content on this blog so I just want to give a small update on my life.

I SAW HARRY STYLES AT RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL IN NEW YORK CITY.

It was amazing! One of the best concerts I have been to in a while. Harry is such a good performer. He performed Kiwi 3 times. THREE TIMES. And it was amazing every time. Such a bop. Like so high energy, such fun lyrics. He did it to convince the record label people to make it the next single. I really hoped it worked as Kiwi is AWESOME!!!. It was a pretty cheeky move on my boy Harry's part.

Harry Styles Radio City

I sat in row D of the 1st mezzanine at Radio City Music Hall. At first, I thought they were good seats and yeah, I could see Harry well enough but I wish they were better. Usually, mezzanine seats are better at other theaters.

Harry Styles Radio City Music Hall

Harry's suit was on point as always. I found a picture on Google to show you guys

I love the red and black combination. It really matched with curtains at Radio City.

Another highlight of the show was when he was asking people where they were from. He was like "who is here from New York?." Many people screamed as expected. And then he asked, "who is here from out of town?" I screamed as technically I was...though only a few miles out of town. Then he asked the audience where out of town. And a girl said, "New Jersey." I WAS LIKE YEAH WHOO. And then Harry was like "New Jersey?" a little sardonically. But he followed it up with, "Not that there is anything wrong with New Jersey. I was just hoping for someone a little bit more out of town. So who here is from some where else than New York, New Jersey, Brooklyn?," I was just like "??????" NEW JERSEY IS NO WHERE NEAR BROOKLYN IN TERMS OF OUT OF TOWNNESS. DOES HE KNOW NJ IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STATE WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE LUMPED WITH NEW YORKERS. WE ARE NEW JERSEY PEOPLE SOME OF US ARE FROM SUPER OUT OF TOWN LIKE SOUTH JERSEY (not me obviously lol)

Obviously, I am just happy he was talking about New Jersey on stage.

Anyway, great experience. MUNA was pretty good too.

No Tomorrow Review: What's on your Apocalyst?

I just finished watching No Tomorrow on Netflix and I really enjoyed it!! When I started the show, I could tell why the CW cancelled it. At first, it just didn't seem as good as the other quirky comedies like Jane the Virgin or Crazy Ex Girlfriend. At first, it felt like the comedy was off. It wasn't haha funny, I guess you can say.

However, as I continued through the show, I loved it. It is funny enough, and there are other positive qualities - like the plot, the premise, the message. No Tomororw, for those of you who don't know, is a show where the main character falls in love with with a guy who thinks the world is going to end and so he encourages her to live life to the fullest.  What's on your Apocalyst? What would you do if you only had 6 months to live? How would you change your life to live in the present and really get your dreams moving.

While watching, I always wondered how they were gonna end it. Is Xavier right and the world is going to end in flames? Or is he wrong and everyone is right when they call him a crazy crack-pot.

When I watched the final episode, I knew it was the final episode. I knew that The CW had not renewed it. (sad face :-( It was a good show!!! But alas, the ratings). On Netflix, they don't show the epilogue. But even without the epilogue, it's sort of beautiful.

SPOILERS AHEAD STOP NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT

Xavier and Evie going out into the world and doing their own thangs. Following their dream jobs. Evie sorta moving on with that doctor guy. How that doctor guy came full circle because he met Xavier at the hospital and encouraged him to quit his job and follow his dreams.

I also like that Xavier was right about the theory. I like that he wasn't just some crazy lunatic. And then he was able to stop the meteor from crushing the Earth with NASA - so cool!

In the beginning, the supporting characters seemed kind of lame. But as the show continued, they started to grow on me and I am glad they got their happy endings.

It was SIGNS that brought Xavier and Evie together (getting the wrong package delivered). It was SIGNS that brought Evie and Doctor-Guy together.

After The CW cancelled No Tomorrow they put in a 2 minute epilogue. The epilogue isn't on Netflix so I had to go searching for it on The CW website. But here's the text from the epilogue.
  • On May 23, the asteroid hit Planet Earth...And killed two cows in a pasture outside Lawrence, Kansas. Xavier & B612 were able to reduce the asteroid's size and avoid global catastrophe.
  • Timothy and Hank's band, Finger and The Noise, enjoyed moderate success after their debut single was used in an episode of Supernatural Season 16. (A CALL BACK TO ANOTHER CW SHOW!!)
  • Timothy and Talia now run an ayahuasca-based writers' retreat near Sedona
  • Hank and Deirdre moved into his bunker on May 21, survived the asteroid, and emerged in time for Deirdre to give birth to Hank, Jr. (no mention if its a girl or boy LOL!)
  • Deirdre still works for Cybermart. It is the fourth greatest love of her life (after Hank, HankJr., and Douglas).
  • Kareema and Sofia are still together. They are passionate advocates of marriage equality and progressive immigration reform.
  • Xavier became a massive hit on the inspirational lecture circuit and a bestselling author ("How Big is your Apocalyst?"). He and his father are still in regular contact. He is the godson of Jesse and Amber's son Jamber.
  • Evie found her true calling as a logistics coordinator for Doctors Without Borders. She traveled the world, helping to facilitate healthcare for people in need.
  • AND THEN YEARS LATER EVIE MEETS XAVIER AT A FARMERS MARKET SO CUTE!!!!
