Woman, a lyrical analysis from Harry Styles the album

Woman, Song Meaning and Lyrical Interpretation

Should we just search romantic comedies on Netflix and see what we find?
One thing I know about Harry Styles from watching interview videos is that he does love romantic comedies! One thing I know about Netflix is there aren't that many good romantic comedies on there.
I'm selfish, I know
But I don't ever want to see you with him
I'm selfish, I know
I told you, but I know you never listen
I hope you can see, the shape that I'm in
While he's touching your skin
He's right where I should, where I should be
But you're making me bleed
Woman is a song about being jealous of an Ex's new boyfriend. Harry and his Ex aren't a good couple and he knows that. However, he still doesn't want to see her with a new man which is what makes him selfish.

Tempted, you know
Apologies are never gonna fix this
I'm empty, I know
And promises are broken like a stitches
It isn't clear who should be apologizing to who. What is clear is that the relationship has had some problems which they both know can't be fixed.

I am convinced this song is about Taylor Swift because of the "stitches" line. After Taylor and Harry's famous snowmobile accident, Harry had to get stitches on his chin. I feel like Harry is purposely referencing stitches to allude to the incident.

I hope you can see, the shape I've been in
While he's touching your skin
This thing upon me, howls like a beast
You flower, you feast
His thoughts of his Ex and her new lover are eating him up inside. This is similar to The Killer's song "Mr. Brightside." "You flower, you feast," may mean that his Ex lover has improved and gotten better, and now she is ready to enjoy the rewards of improving - her new man. Meanwhile, Harry is still fighting with himself over loosing her.

I am not sure why the chorus is just "Woman," being repeated (or why there are any duck noises LOL). Maybe Harry is just like this is what happens when you love a woman.

  1. I think this song is about jealousy but the love interest is not a woman. The duck noises sound like a " thumbing his nose" at the woman for stealing his friend/ love interest. Mainly Louis his bandmate. Jealousy doesn't have to be sexual but can be romantic as well. It's just a feeling I get from this song. He doesn't want " him" touching her skin because he is jealous of her. That's why he sang " Girl Crush". Think about it.

    1. but he said “he’s right where i should, where i should be” so he’s jealous of the man, not the woman

    1. It’s about Harry and Zayn’s deep love. Louis loved him first but Harry only has eyes for Zayn.

  8. I think the repetition of "woman" in the chorus could be alluding to how she is always on his mind.

  9. I would agree that the song is about him being jealous of the woman and that she is with his ex, but the line "he's right where I should, where I should be" changes the whole meaning of the song for me. It's hard for me to think that the man is his ex since he wants to be in his place, suggesting that he is in fact jealous of the man. But, I guess it could be perceived either way.

  10. Nope! If you mean Louis would be saying that “I loved you first” to Harry .. yes.. and it’s because he knows Harry is deep in love with Zayn and Zayn deeply loves Harry..💛💚💛💚

  11. Why is it that there are larries supporters in every song's analysis comments, it's horrible.
